Overview
The State Code of Florida requires that all municipalities and counties within the state enforce the most current (5th edition, 2014, effective 06/30/15) Florida Building Code, including Building, Residential and Existing Building Codes, at a minimum. Fort Pierce, FL, further amended the state code with additional, more stringent, provisions. Fort Pierce, FL, municipal code § 5-1 (adopted and amended).
§ 5-1.131 Wind Speed: The jurisdiction of the City of Fort Pierce has two wind speeds, 160 MPH and 150 MPH. The wind speed line as indicated on the modified state map runs north to south in the line extremely close to 25th Street. 25th Street is chosen to represent the wind speed line for the City of Ft. Pierce. The wind speed line will run north to south down the center of 25th Street. The land eastward of this line, including the barrier island shall be in the 160 MPH wind zone. The land westward of this line shall be in the 150 MPH wind zone. All projects shall be properly designed according to such wind speed zone. Both the modified state map and the chosen City of Fort Pierce wind line speed map will be kept on file in the Office of the City Clerk and in the Building Department.
